What you’ll be doing:
- Lead and mentor a team of Electrical Engineers and Designers; assign tasks and provide technical and professional guidance.
- Contribute to hands-on design and testing of electronics (schematics and PCB layout) for the brand's products.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Optical, Mechanical, and Software engineering teams to ensure cohesive and robust system architectures.
- Support global product deployment by ensuring all systems and FRUs (Field Replaceable Units) meet regulatory certification requirements.
- Participate in headcount planning, budgeting, and long-term product roadmap discussions.
- Oversee sustaining engineering efforts, ensuring continuity and quality in existing product lines.
- Evaluate team resource allocation and progress; optimize workflows to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Drive continuous improvement of the electrical product development process.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure compliance with the brand's specifications and quality expectations.
- Own, create, and maintain design documentation, including specs, design reviews, and BOMs.
- Propose and evaluate alternative designs to maintain leadership in cinema technology.
- Provide engineering support to Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Installation, and Technical Services.
Challenges you’ll be facing:
- Balance hands-on design work with team leadership and mentoring.
- Navigate global supply chain challenges, including component shortages and obsolescence.
- Lead efforts to ensure global certification and regulatory compliance for all electrical components.
- Prioritize tasks based on business impact; effectively triage incoming requests.
- Drive consensus through negotiation and cross-functional alignment.
- Maintain rigorous safety standards, especially for high-voltage systems and high-brightness light sources.
- Collaborate with the Laser Safety Officer to ensure lab and field safety.
- Identify and resolve inefficiencies in the product development lifecycle.
What we’re looking for:
- 7–10 years of hands-on experience in electrical design for consumer or industrial-grade products.
- Minimum 3 years in an engineering leadership role.
- 5+ years of design experience using Altium (or equivalent ECAD software).
- Strong experience in advanced digital design; analog design preferred.
- Proficiency in debugging and validation tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SPICE simulations).
- Familiarity with thermal design; simulation experience (heat/airflow) is a plus.
- Experience with regulatory certification processes for global products.
- Highly skilled in time management and multitasking.
- Proven ability to evaluate and develop engineering talent.
- P.Eng designation is highly desirable.
- Experience with video/image processing (FPGA/GPU pipelines) is a plus
- Experience with component obsolescence tools (eg, Silicon Expert) is a plus
- Experience with image compression standards (H.264, etc.) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of high-power laser systems, opto-mechanical design, and embedded software.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Familiarity with formal design and development processes.
